Acer Buergerianum - The trident maple is a bonsai staple, and like the rest of the trees in this section must be left outdoors year round. Hardy to Zone 5.
Well known for the superb colors of its foliage in autumn. The bark is a dappled pale brown and exfoliates with age revealing a grey orange and brown color. The small leaves (which resist scorching during drought) have 3 short lobes close together - hence the name "Tri-Dent"
The variety Mino yatsubusa has distinct "T"-shaped leaves and corky bark. Left to it's own it would reach about 10 feet high with an 8 foot spread in about 10 years
