Shimpaku Juniper - Juniperus chinensis Sargentii

Also known as Sargent's juniper this outdoor evergreen is marginally hardy in Canada - rated zones 6-8. Which means that while it needs cooler temps for the winter, it must be protected. The shimpaku is native to Japan and naturally prefers rocky, well drained soils. Give it full morning sun, afternoon part sun only. On young plants the foliage is needle like but with age the foliage is more scale like.

Spray with water daily during the growing season and allow the soil to dry out "slightly" don't allow it to become completely dried out.
