This TRIDENT MAPLE (acer buergerianum) is native to eastern China.
Its straight, light-beige trunk loses its bark as it grows old. The 3-pointed leaves turn yellow-orange and red in autumn, and the fruit looks like a winged key. A very popular tree for bonsai and not at all difficult to understand why.
