SCOTS PINE (pinus sylvestris)---outdoor (zones 4-9), also called SCOTCH PINE
In the wild, it matures naturally in the bonsai literati style, with branches spreading horizontally below its flattened apex. The scaly bark is reddish brown when young, and gray-brown when older. The needles, in pairs, are stiff and often twisted, 1 1/2 to 3” long, and color from gray-green to blue-green. The cones are about the same length as the needles. It is a most suitable pine for bonsai.
Pot: Mica, rectangle, brown, 9x7x3.5“; Origin 1995; Height 24“; Photo: March 2008
